Employers should prepare for stepped-up immigration enforcement in the workplace, including more ICE I-9 audits and raids. This 90-minute webinar on I-9 audit and immigration raid preparation explains what that can mean: a painful process, a sudden loss of workers, and administrative and criminal penalties.

Employers in manufacturing, food processing, agriculture, construction and hospitality with a largely unskilled workforce face the most exposure. Since 1986 employers have had to check new hires' identity and work authorization documents on Form I-9, yet those documents are easy to fake, and counterfeits using stolen identities of real citizens can still pass E-Verify.

DHS can arrive with a notice of inspection or subpoena and demand within three days hiring and termination lists, payroll and tax records, ownership and staffing vendor details, all required I-9 forms and copies of employee documents.

An I-9 audit is often called a silent raid. ICE can sanction employers for incorrectly completed or missing forms, for knowingly hiring unauthorized workers and for missing strict electronic storage rules, with per-worker fines and possible debarment from federal contracts. Employers get 10 days to fix technical errors, but ICE treats many errors as substantive.

The session suits employers of all sizes and industries, business owners, company leaders, HR and compliance professionals, and managers.
